A Community College is an alternative system of education, which is aimed at the empowerment of the disadvantaged and the underprivileged, through appropriate skills development, leading to gainful employment. This is done in collaboration with the local industry and the community, in order to achieve skills for employment and self -employability.
Our Community College is an innovative educational alternative that is rooted in the community, providing learning opportunities that change lives.
How It All Began......
Six young girls who had a special experience of God, urging them to live together, founded the Congregation of the Sisters of St.Joseph of Tarbes in the year 1843 in France. They became sensitive to the needs of people around and responded enthusiastically to the call to educate children and take care of the sick. They also undertook many other forms of service according to the needs of the people around them.
Through the ages the sisters persevered in their mission with faith in God, heroic courage and optimism even in moments of great difficulties, opposition and challenges.
The sisters came to India in the year 1882. Since then, they are involved in various works, especially devoted to education, health and social work. Both formal and non-formal education is undertaken through schools, colleges, crèches and adult education. Health care is provided by curative and preventive measures, through hospitals, clinics, health education and community health. Various developmental works have been started in the villages and slums for women and children. Social awareness, schemes for women's empowerment through tailoring, saving schemes and leadership skills are organized for them.
